Close the textbook or workbook and have your students get out some scissors and glue for this hands-on practice identifying and classifying nouns. You'll love students' improved grammar and writing skills and the preparation for standardized testing. This activity is great for guided practice or independent practice, and can even be used in a center or learning station. A key is provided to make checking and grading easy.
Students cut out cards containing various words and sort them into a table as people, places, things, ideas, or not nouns. Having the "not nouns" category keeps students on their toes to think about what a noun actually is. The ideas category for upper grades is optional (there is a 2nd version of the activity included which does not contain the idea nouns).
If you like the activity, please leave feedback and check out my other products.
Please do not copy this activity for an entire grade level or school. If your colleagues like the nouns practice activity, please send them to Teachers Pay Teachers! Thank you!

I have been a public school teacher in a highly respected district in the Atlanta metro area for the past 11 years. I have taught very diverse students, usually all together in one group! After teaching fourth grade for ten years, I am now teaching a computer lab special to 3 and 4 year olds, and loving it! I am also the technology coordinator for my public, special needs school. You never know what changes life will bring!
