PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a free one-page handout on the numbers, time, day, and date in Spanish, based on the practical conversation course "Spanish that Works for You" (available on Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com). Use the handout as a study guide or reference in class or on the job, or to teach a lesson or workshop on the Spanish numbers, time, day, and date. The pronunciation guide (see also the free "Saying & Understanding" handout) trains English speakers to both understand and speak Latin American Spanish. Visit www.spanishthatworks.org for additional information.

A nice concise handout - great for beginning students to use as a study guide. The pronunciation guide is creative - helps students to understand how to make the Spanish d and r, but it does take a little explaining. Make sure students understand that the the "th" in the guide is not the voiceless "th" of the peninsular c/z, but rather the "th" in "mother," which is the Spanish d. My beginning students have a hard time accepting this - probably due to poor instruction in phonetics early on.

Could you please correct 16-19, 21-29 - dieciséis, diecisiete, dieciocho, diecinueve, veintiuno, veintidos, veintitres, veinticuatro, veinticinco, veintiséis, veintisiete, veintiocho, veintinueve - It is not diez y seis, etc.

Hi! Thanks for the comment / request. Diez y seis, etc. was listed as an alternate way to write dieciséis, etc. in the three U.S. edited Spanish textbooks I consulted when I wrote Spanish that Works 10 years ago. To my understanding it was used more in Spain, which didn't exactly fit the Latin American focus of STW, but I chose it because it's simpler to teach and I originally wrote the course for short-term intensive conversation classes for working adults who would not be writing out the numbers anyway. I'm wondering if "diez y seis" is now too old-fashioned, even for Spain. I haven't been in the classroom for awhile to see if updated Spanish textbooks include this form or not, but I will do some more research and see if the hand-out needs to be updated.
