This is a NURSERY RYME version of our popular "Sentence Maker" resource. It is a collection of worksheets that will help all your students with the reading and writing process.
There are four versions of each of the six worksheets - so 24 in total.
Cut & Paste - for your newest learners, that are only beginning to understand the concept of a word, and a sentence and how we put them together to make meaning. Students will TRACE, CUT and PASTE to 'make a sentence'.
Trace - for students that have a good understanding of words and sentences, and are ready to learn to write themselves. Students will read a sentence, then trace it to copy.
Copy - for students who are able to form most letters of the alphabet correctly and are learning to copy print from models. Students will copy a sentence that is already written.
Write - for students beginning to write independently and who can try to sound-out and write their own words. Students will write their own sentence to match the picture.
Help children to:
- attend to print
- discover what a word looks like
- understand that a sentence is made up of words
understand that word order is important
- we read and write from left to write
- we need spaces between our words
- punctuation is important in writing and reading
- they are able to make their own sentence story and read it back
- text and pictures are related.
This file features teaching tips and twenty four worksheets that you are able to print and photocopy for your own classroom use only.
All pages feature delightful illustrations from the popular nursery rhymes:
- Baa Baa Black Sheep
- Humpty Dumpty
- Jack and Jill
- Hickory Dickory Dock
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
- Hey Diddle Diddle

Used this for beginning of the year for retelling and it was a big hit! The writings were displayed in the hall and got rave reviews! Thanks for this great bundle of fun!

Would you consider selling your clip art that you drew for these worksheets? I am looking for nursery rhyme clip art- just the characters, no backgrounds to use for a project. Just wondering.....
Hi
Thank you so much for your question. I did not make these graphics, I paid a graphic designer to make me them for exclusive use, many years ago - long before I had started making my own clipart.
I have started drawing some for my clipart store, so hopefully i can get them finished soon. I know how hard it is to find educational-quality nursery rhyme stuff!
My name is Melanie. I have been a classroom teacher in Australia since 2001, and designing digital resources for teachers since 2005. I love doing both and think TpT is wonderful for bringing both worlds together for me!
