This 20 page unit begins with an extensive rational expounding on the validity of The Odyssey as a text read in the freshman year and follows with a series of highly creative and superbly unique lessons and activities exploring theme, ancient Greek history, characterization, epithets, epic similes, the bond system, figurative language and much, much more!

Unit Includes:

1. Extensive Rationale
2. Curriculum Frameworks (Massachusetts) Attended to Including:
- Language Strand
- Reading and Literature Strand
- Composition Strand
- Media Strand
3. Unit Objective, which is as follows:
Given a series of lectures and the opportunity to participate in various group and individual activities on the Odyssey, students will be challenged to put their new knowledge of Homeric tenents, narrative structure, characterization and connections to literature to use in a dramatic improvisational exercise and a formal written exercise that must meet a set of stylistic and ideological standards.
4. Class Calendar
- Entire unit takes 16-25 class sessions to complete depending on student readiness, scheduling, and time spent on each lesson.
5. Narratives describing the procedures and activities in ALL 25 class sessions
6. All Directions, Informational Handouts, Worksheets, Rubrics, and Outlines Associated with Assessments
7. 4 In-Class Reading/ Writing Analysis Worksheets (Tailored to Develop Thesis Statement, Topic Sentence and Analysis Skills) focusing on:

- Latin Name
