The story weaves together the names of the place values so that by the end students have an easy way to remember them (OH TOOTH) and the correct reading of the decimal point as "and." The story provides a literary way to teach a math concept. Your kids have never enjoyed decimals this much!

No, I have had students create their own illustrations. This step ensures that they read the story again to ensure that the illustrations support the piece of text at the bottom of each page. I have had some really artistic students do exceptionally well.
