This lab (which is part of an environmental ed unit) can be modified to be used as a multi-day lab or a single day lab, the choice is yours depending on time! Students will first create an environment to mimic an oil spill. This will allow students to see how oil affects an environment. Students will then create an effective economical clean up method to clean their environment. This is a great group lab activity that allows students to put on their thinking cap to solve real life situations! (Please keep in mind that TPT sometimes shifts the margins of my documents. Upon receival, if you cannot change the margins on your own, please email me and I will send you a corrected copy)

Do you have cheaper substitute materials for this lab? If not, where do you get oil mat and oil absorbent powder?
I have access to the materials through contacts that work for the government. You could try am mechanics shop or anyone that would have to deal with cleaning up oil, such as possibly a gas station. where do you live? I'm not sure how much it would be to ship you a few of them.
