This is a verbal activity for the French past tense. Three sets of questions are included: past tense with avoir, irregular past participles that use avoir, past tense with etre. There are 10-12 questions for each of the three versions, and it is a Word document so the teacher can edit as desired or mix the questions into one more challenging version.
It could be used for practice shortly after teaching the past tense structure, as well as for evaluation later in a teaching cycle. You may decide to focus on this one activity over a couple of classes, or to include it within your plan for just 5 minutes each class over a longer period of time.
It includes a dozen questions related to the life of middle school students. Depending on your class and their prior learning, you may need to preteach some vocabulary.
I found it to be an effective, low-risk way to get even my reluctant students speaking and using this new grammatical concept.
You can reuse the questions, asking your students to come up with different answers, for additonal practice and to keep things "fresh".
Writing could also be assessed with minor adaptations to the student instructions.
