Activity includes nine cards using ordinal numbers 1st-11th. This activity encourages Bloom's higher level thinking. Students are encouraged to work in pairs on this activity and discuss how they know each card is true or false. One card focuses on a common error students make when they assume without counting that the last block on the card is the 10th. However, there is one extra block on this card--the last block is actually the 11th. This activity is designed to work well after a lesson with snap/unifix cubes. The teacher models with 10 black cubes and 1 white cube. The white cube represents different ordinal numbers. Then students build different ordinal numbers with their own cubes. The card sort follows.
