This Othello unit plan now includes 16 worksheets on the elements of literature in addition to activity sheets on the major issues (gender, class, ethnicity, dignity and age)in this play.
It offers the Common Core Standards that are covered in these lessons. The variety of material also addresses all areas of the Bloom's Taxonomy thinking skills hierarchy chart. I like the overall unit layout. It is good for large, overall activities and has room for additional activities. It is not a day to day get through the reading but a very good start.

Thank you for your comments. No, it does not include a day to day reading because when I did include it, some teachers wanted to spend more time studying each act and others wanted to read an act one day and discuss it the next. That's why I left it open to each teacher. I just posted a revised version at around 11:15 this morning. I hope that you got the one that said in part, "It offers a chart showing the Common Core Anchor Standards for Literature 6-12, a time frame for 90-minute block and 55-minute periods, ideas for teaching incorporating the elements of literature for increased understanding, daily lessons, activities, assessments and projects. This Unit Plan will help me and my partner who have to create a Thematic Unit based on Othello. Adjustments have to be made because we are planning to teach this book to 9th graders. However, the use of the modern film "O" will help our students identify with the elements in the story and why the outcome happened.

Overall, a good unit plan. There are several typos and this also requires students to read Othello for homework, which is a bit impractical from my vantage point.

Oh, I do apologize for the typos! I always have other people read my products before I post them b/c, as I tell my students, "We never see all of our own mistakes." This time I omitted that step. If reading the play for homework doesn't work for you, and it didn't for me all of the time either, have them read it in class-individually, in groups or as a whole class, with different students playing the parts each day; this 3rd option gives all students a chance to participate. Whichever way that you choose, they could read an act in 1-2 days, discuss it the next and so on. You'd need approximately15 days for the reading/discussions if using this approach (it all depends on your students' skills and abilities), and more days for projects, presentations, etc.

I'm looking for a unit for a 10 honors class that has a lot of higher level thinking writing and discussion questions. Do you feel that this is included in your unit, or would it be more geared toward a basic college prep class? How much differentiation is worked into your lessons? How many lessons are included in this unit?

Your question spurred me to update my Othello unit and add a number of new activities that I meant to but hadn't included yet in this posting. I thank you for motivating me to make these long-intended revisions.
I feel that this unit will suit your needs for an Honors 10 class for many reasons, one being that Honors 10 teachers at my last teaching post did ask me if they could use much of this material. More has been added as per their suggestions. This 25-page unit has 8 activities (handouts) as well as 11 teaching ideas to engage students individually or in groups, and a comprehensive test. Two project ideas are also included. Ten more project ideas are offered under the Othello Projects posting.
I always try to work in a good deal of differentiation in my units because all of the years I taught, my classes were quite heterogeneous, comprised of students whose abilities ranged from those who were taking Honors or AP classes (science, math, language) in most everything but English, to students on a much more basic level. The depth of thinking, comprehension and writing skills is fluid, dependent on the objectives of the teacher and the abilities of the students.
Check out the Thumbprints and the Preview; they should allay your concerns as much as they can, considering you aren't seeing the complete unit. Please let me know if I can clarify anything else for you.

Because one of my goals is to prove that studying literature, writing, vocabulary and grammar can be fun, I have created a number of innovative lessons for these strands of learning.
