This packet includes fun songs and poems that can be integrated into your study of the human body. They are a fun way to introduce your science lessons; for example, you may want to read the poem "Pink Sponges" prior to a lesson about the lungs.
These poems and songs are also a great choice for shared reading if you enlarge the text onto chart paper or project it using a document camera... this way everyone can enjoy reading or singing it with you. If you'd like to connect your science lessons to your word study, make a copy for each child and highlight or circle letters/words you want to work on with them. I have also used these selections for performance reading or Readers' Theater. Many of the songs and poems lend themselves well to being performed and this gives my students a fun way to practice fluent reading. The students can keep a collection of all the poems and songs you've shared and continue to reread them during independent reading times.
