This four page, scripted mini lesson teaches students about recognizing and creating sound images in their writing using examples from Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. The text can be used as an interactive read aloud and anchor text prior to the lesson or at the beginning of the lesson. The lesson itself (not including reading aloud the book) takes about 20 minutes.
Sound images (not necessarily onomatopoeia) are images created by the author by using words that makes the sounds pop in the reader's minds.
