This is a Reader's Theater for 7 students. It is a Navajo 'Just So' Story about why animals have the markings that they do. I usually make my stories smaller but this one needed seven. My name is Melanie Whitesides and my students are 99% Navajo. They love performing stories from their culture and comparing them with other cultures.

I am now heading into my third year of teaching but my 11th Year of working with schools. I teach a 99% American Indian class. They are 90% ELL and the problem that we face each day is low literacy and low math skills. I've written childrens and young adult books as well as poetry but have not found myself an agent yet to help publish them.
