This is a graphic organizer in the shape of a house. There is a place for the main idea, 4 details to support the main idea, and a place for a conclusion. It works very well with non-fiction paragraphs, as well as short reports for the beginning writer. The organizer really helps the student to help see her paragraph take shape and the student can start to integrate this organized thought process into her writing, even when the graphic organizer is not available.

I was looking for something similar to this that I had used a few years ago but did not save electronically. It was great because I could edit it to my specifications. I used this when my students were writing a 5 paragraph essay. It really helped them to stay organized! Thanks!

I appreciated that this is created in Word and that I could change the headings as needed. My students are doing a report on shelters (they each need to pick a type of house from around the world) so this was a perfect graphic for that!

I just finished my second year of teaching a combined class of grades 4 and 5. I also taught 2nd grade for 5 years on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We have a large number of high risk students. I previously substitute taught for Richmond City Schools.
