A great resource during Parent-Teacher Conferences to explain the skills in reading, writing, and math their child needs by the end of the year! This guide breaks down the main three subjects and offers suggestions for how to help their child achieve success. Includes a 2-page overview of the Common Core Standards for first grade. I originally wrote this to correlate with the sections on my report card and have updated portions to reflect the language of the Common Core Standards (for instance, base ten and phonological awareness).

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught first grade for 4 1/2 years (I was a mid-year hire) at a low-socioeconomic school. I then earned my gifted endorsement and taught a combination 4th and 5th grade gifted class in language arts and math. Now I am teaching first grade to second language learners in the United Arab Emirates.
