This fun activity will have your students sorting by initial sounds in no time! Simply put all of the fish in a large container and have your students 'fish' them out! They will look at the picture and determine the beginning sound and sort the cards. I have included a follow-up worksheet as well that focuses on writing the words (they are all CVC words).
Thanks for the comment, Andromeda. When I introduce this activity in January, my students are familiar with those words as we have already reviewed the -ar and -ow sounds. Sorry if they may be a little hard for your students! You can easily change the picture to something simpler to spell.

Not yet - I am working on some beginning sounds games for the winter and will have them posted as freebies here on TpT soon. In the meantime, all of my units (which are theme-based) have something in them for beginning sounds practice. Hope this helps!

Hi,
I love your freebie. Thank you so much! Just an FYI, there are some pages that are ruined because of BIG DARK BLACK lines that have ruined the page. Could you please help me out? I would love to use this!!!
Hi Christine,
The file shouldn't have any issues - I have had many people download it with no problems. Here is what TpT says to do: If you purchased/downloaded a PDF and it is blurry/black lines after you open it, solve it this way: on a MAC or PC, install the latest version of ADOBE READER. Then, open the file with ADOBE READER. That's it. On a MAC, make sure to "Open With" ADOBE READER and NOT Preview. If it's still blurry, that's because you are still opening it with Preview!
Hope this helps! Contact TpT if you are still having trouble and let me know.
