You can use this activity to teach students about characters' feelings/emotions. Students get to look at 6 jack-o-lanterns and write a feeling for each. Then it's their turn to create one of their own by drawing a particular feeling on a pumpkin. The teacher is given 25 feelings from which students choose or pick from a pumpkin. It can be made into a game as other students guess the feelings. It would also make a lovely October bulletin board display.

I have taught for 36 years at the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade levels. Fifth grade is my first love. I teach all major subject areas. In addition to my regular classroom duties, I have taught in a Basic Skills summer school program for many years as well as taught workshops to co-workers in whole language and technology.
