In this activity students are asked to imagine that they are about to travel on the Oregon Trail.
Their task is to write a letter to a bank or a benefactor to convince (persuade) them to loan you $500 dollars for their dangerous journey.
They must also create a supply list (items to choose from along with pricing included) and explain why they chose each item.
My kids LOVE this activity every year. Sometimes I let them get into "families" and they will sit an argue over how many cans of beans they need or if they need one wagon tongue or two.
They become so invested in it that their letters are usually amazing!
