Find out what decoding and phonemic awareness skills your students lack and have a complete blueprint to re-teach them from. This inventory assesses student knowledge of phonemes and sounds patterns in isolation, as well as with in the context of a word. The first page is the scoring page where you will note individual student responses and scores for each area. Students are prompted to orally give sounds of letters, letter combinations or patterns in isolation then use them in the context of a word. The areas assessed are consonant sounds, short and long vowel sounds, y as a vowel, silent letters, vowel pairs, diphthongs, schwa sounds, r and l controlled vowels, blends, clusters ( 3 letter blends) Rimes, and common word endings. Also a teaching point for the irregular sounds ie and ei are shown. This inventory is correlated to common teaching practices for introducing phonics to children as well as correlated to K-5 California State Standards.

I have taught elementary school for 8 years with the majority of my experience in teaching 3rd grade in an urban setting with a majority of bilingual students. I speak some Spanish so I am better able to communicate with the parents of my students. I have also taught for one year each in 2nd and 4th along with sub experience in grades 1st & 5th as well. Currently alongside teaching third grade I am a mentor to new teachers as well as a workshop presenter on topics including Reading Strategies, Math Interventions, Classroom Management and Technology in the Classroom. I've also worked with children from infant to 18 years in other settings including early childhood development centers, after-school programs, summer camps, at-risk youth programs, juvenile detention centers and Special Olympics.
