All the fancy font will be confusing to my struggling learners. Booklets are a great idea, but first graders will stuggle with putting together and structure. Not an independent activity. Like the word searches, but it is probably all I will use. :( expensive choice.

Thanks for your purchase. I wanted to address a couple of things to see if I can help you get the most from this product. You are right that the booklets are not an independent activity. They are not intended to be. Maybe you haven't had a chance to read through the lesson plan and set up direction pages, but these are for the teacher to guide lessons either in whole group, or small group. The students will complete their own flipbook {but the flipbook is pre-assembled and the students cut out and glue the blend chunks} by writing words that begins or ends with the blends being studied.
I use all of my kits in my own first grade classroom and I found that I like to vary the fonts used so that kids see all kinds of environmental print. If they recognize a fancy r, for instance, they will know an r from any other r. I hope that helps you to enjoy your purchase.

My first island (ok, classroom) was Kindergarten, which I taught for 3 years and then...I graduated to 1st grade and have been there ever since. LOVE It!!!
