I am new to elementary school (I taught 12 years in High School). I am cluless about phonics, teaching word sounds - and making board games. I am sorry that I just cant picture how to put it all together.

On  October 6, 2012Mrs Browning answered:
I would suggest finding a colleague with a file folder game because I believe you are over thinking it. The games use the same concept as candy land except instead of moving to the same color as their card, they are moving to the same sound. For example if they are playing the vowel game and they pick up the picture of a cat they would move their piece to the 'a' on the board. They continue until someone reaches the finish line. Ese are not designed to teach but to reinforce concepts through practice and peer tutoring. other student will correct mistakes while playing or you can use the games in small groups and help students figure them out. All you need to do it get a file folder, draw spaces for students to place their pieces and write the corresponding sounds from the cards. You will then attach an envelope to the back of the file folder to keep the pieces.

how do I assemble these games? shouldnt there be a game board printable included?

On  October 3, 2012Mrs Browning answered:
The pieces are for any standard file folder game, the description clearly states that you have to create them on your own. You can print a board game cut out, however I suggest creating the board by hand as they look much better. If you are uncertain this site should gave you ideas http://blissfullydomestic.com/fun-bliss/crafts-fun-bliss/file-folder-games/22743/ . You create the board and on each of the spaces you would put a sound, when the students pull the cards they determine the beginning, middle, or ending sound depending on which game you are creating, and then move their game piece to the correct space.
