Students are introduced to physical and chemical properties, and physical and chemical changes through a 35-slide Power point 2007 presentation, accompanied by a set of note pages for students to complete. Students can then review what they've learned by completing a short worksheet.
Teaching instructions are included, as well as suggestions for introducing this lesson. All answer keys are provided.

Topics covered in the Power point:
Physical properties: mass, volume, density, boiling point, melting point, viscosity, color, shape, texture;
Chemical properties: ability to burn, ability to react with acid, formation of a precipitate, release of gas or light or heat, decrease in temperature;
Physical changes: melting, freezing, boiling, evaporation, tearing, dissolving, cracking, breaking;
Chemical changes: burning, reacting with acid, releasing heat or light or gas, forming a precipitate.
Visual examples and terms are presented. Two examples of separating a mixture by using physical properties are presented.
After completing the presentation and notes, and the review page, students will have a thorough understanding of physical and chemical properties and changes.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have logged twenty-eight wonderful years in public education teaching various science subjects from grades 6 through 12. I currently teach at an alternative school for at-risk youth and teen moms. It's a great place to teach - classes are small and we can really get to know our students. I get to be a facilitator and do a lot of up-close and personal teaching. This is why I became a teacher! I love what I do! I love to share lessons and see what others are doing in the classroom. That's why I love TpT. It has expanded my knowledge base and reenergized my career!
