This is a fast-paced and exciting game that practices addition fact fluency to 5. This game is perfect for a guided math lesson or to put in a math station or center. Also included is a recording sheet for listing number sentences before or after play. (CCSS alignment- K.OA.5)
Directions: Divide the cards into two stacks (one stack for the male pilgrim and one stack for the female pilgrim). Distribute one set of cards evenly to players. Players should leave their cards face up in front of them. The other stack of cards should be placed in a pile face down in front of the teacher or "caller." The teacher flips over a card, one at a time, and calls out the number sentence on the card. Players look at their cards for the sum of the number sentence given. If the player has the sum, he/she should slap the card and say "poof!" If correct, the cards are matched and set aside. The first player to "poof" all of his/her cards is the winner.
