What's My "Place" Value? This set includes: Place value work mat for the students, number task cards, teacher direction sheet, and student direction sheet. Meets Math Common Core 2NBT.1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9! Interactive set to be introduced whole group and then integrated into a center as a year long spiral activity. Students will use manipulatives to show place value, write numbers in standard and expanded form, compare numbers, write number name and create and solve word problems.
Additional Activity: Children order the task cards, write their ordering rule and explain how they knew to order them.
**I introduced this activity whole group using large construction paper divided into 100's/10's/1's, with writing space below, saltines for hundreds, twizzlers (cut short) for tens and marshmellows for ones. I passed out the task cards and baggies filled with the goodies and gave the children 5 minutes to build their number, write it in standard, expanded, and word form. When we were done each group had to order themselves (cooperative), choose a speaker who then explained how they ordered themselves and what place value assisted them and why. When we were done, I went over the center activity that I have posted here.

I thought this was a very thoughtful center. I really appreciate that blank cards were provided for extention. The one thing that I know I will need to do is blow the images up because my students need a little bit more space to write. They write on the messy side!

I've been teaching in a public school for 7 years. I was in first grade for two years and this is my 5th year in 2nd. I absolutely LOVE this age and grade! I love creating an engaging and FUN atmosphere in my classroom.
