While studying plants in our Science curriculum, we study different plant parts and types. As a whole group, we made a graphic organizer on chart paper and wrote different types of plants into 6 different categories that we can eat. The categories were: fruits, flowers, roots, leaves, stems and seeds. I created this graphic organizer to keep students on track during the activity, and also as a fun resource sheet for them to keep on all the different plant parts we are able to eat! Included is an answer key as a quick reference for you. Some can cross into several categories, so please let me know if you think some are not in the best category. Also, I tried to think of as many different plants for each category, but if you think of more please let me know and I will update it!

This was a great wrap up after teaching a plant unit. After this activity, kids brought in their own plant parts to share with the class (share by telling about their plant part and shared for eating!)

I have been teaching for 4 years now. I worked for 2 years at a public elementary school as a Title One Math and Reading Intervention Specialist for 3rd and 4th grades. I am currently in my second year as a 2nd grade teacher at a Christian school and I LOVE my job! I had the unique opportunity to loop with my students and an greatly enjoying it!
