I like this activity and plan to use it soon. I would like to suggest that you actually state that the dots are being used to create the tally marks somewhere in your packet ( just for clarification). I figured it out but after the fact lol

After reading your explanation for the dots, I have just one suggestion. Possibly you could label that box "Tallies". Otherwise, the mats are super!

I did not give this any rating especially not a poor one - where did you get that idea? I also saw that you had already answered my question in a former post and tried to delete this comment but it will not let you do that. I would never give someone who obviously works as hard as you do to create wonderful activities a poor rating ever! It just was not clear how the dots were being used as evidenced by other people noticing the same thing I did.

I love this activity but your number dots are incorrect after 4 - everything that should have 5 dots or more only has 4 where 5 should be.
The dots are correct - they are "guides" for tally marks. Because tallies only have 4 going down and one across, I only put 4 starting dots (helps remind your students). I wish you would have asked a question before giving this a poor rating. I hope that explains things!
I'm not sure what the dots represent in the top left corner. It seems that the number of dots reflect the value of the numeral. In this case, your number dots are incorrect from 5 on.
The dots are "guides" for tally marks. I need to add a page to explain that. Because tally marks are 4 lines down and 1 across, there are only 4 dots for each group of tallies. Those dots help guide your kids to make the correct amount of tallies to match the number. Hope that helps! Let me know if you need any more help!

Hi Rowdy,
I'm loving your ideas! Can you check the Play Dough mats, though. Your dots only go up to four on either side.
Thanks,
Brenda
Hi Brenda!
Yes, the dots are "guides" for tally marks - because only 4 tallies go down and 1 crosses over. Does that make sense? Let me know if you need more help!
