Plays-to-Go

PLAYS-TO-GO is a 25 page program for introducing 4-6 graders to theater arts activities, including creative playwriting and other aspects of the theater, such as: producing, directing, and acting in student-written plays.

The program was tested in several elementary schools and was a big hit with the students. They loved writing their own plays and having them performed in front of fellow students in some cases in front of parents.

PLAYS-TO-GO consists of the following components:

1. Instruction.

2. THE NEWS CONFERENCE, a short play by which the teacher presents the idea of forming production companies for students to write, produce, direct, and act in their own plays.

3. THE MONSTER, a short two-act play, that provides a basis for discussing playwriting and play production. "The Monster" is a machine that spits out plays on demand. The owners of the store, Plays-to-Go, Inc., soon learn there is more to playwriting than clicking a button.

4. THE TEAM, a short one-act play, about a playwriting company struggling with ideas for plays.
