Students may do these Common Core based activities in conjunction with their self-selected and class readings as well as writing assignments. They also work as test prep materials. The activities include:
--Plot Map -Organize events of a story.
--Plot Summary Frame - Complete a summary of events based on the plot map.
--Plot Summary: Business Letter Frame- Write a formal letter about a story.

Reading Literature:
2. Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details
and ideas.
10. Read and comprehend complex literary and informational texts independently and proficiently.
Writing:
4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task,
purpose, and audience.
5. Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.

Graphic organizers act as scaffolding tools to move students from less cognitively demanding tasks to more cognitively demanding activities. The beauty of graphic organizers is they need not be extensive or difficult to increase student learning.
