Poetry Activity Twitter-Style: Writing a Poetweet or Twaiku (Haiku using Twitter 140 Character Restrictions)
Harness the social-marketing site Twitter to engage students in this fun activity. It makes poetry more meaningful to them when it is a part of their world. If they see their celebrity crush poetweeting, they'll want to, as well.
Using the limitation of 140 characters in a Twitter tweet, students will create original poems to share with you, their classmates, and possibly the world. It should help them realize that poems don't have to be long or rhyme to send a powerful message or to be "good."
