Guide your students to a deeper level of appreciation and understanding of the poetry genre. Students will read and react to poems. They will assemble these reactions into a creative poetry response journal. For each poem, they will write the source information, analyze the meaning, and identify poetic devices. They will also use what they learned about poetic devices to create their own poem. Included in this pack are the instructions, an analysis worksheet, and an evaluation guide. The project also includes a page for comparing and contrasting 2 poems within a graphic organizer and a quick write. (This product also available in MSWord format).
The students will practice and master the following skills:
-- Identify, analyze, and use poetry terminology
-- Recognize and understand the significance of various poetic devices
-- Write responses to poetic literature
The design of the activity is easily adaptable for English language learners (ELD, ESL, EFL, SDAIE) and classroom needs.
This may also be used for sustained silent reading (SSR), indepdndent reading, free voluntary reading (FVR), and drop everything and read (DEAR).
