This activity is a great way to review various language and characteristics of poetry in a fun way. Two levels of scavenger hunts help you work with different grades or ability levels.
Use Scavenger Hunt B with any poem that contains different features of poetry, including rhyming words, rhyme pattern, comparisons and sensory language.
For students who are working with more sophisticated literary devices, use version A, which includes hunting for simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, and sensory language.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
I've taught elementary school for nine years. I spent eight years in fourth grade, and this is my first year in third! I'm a past president of the El Paso Reading Council, the local branch of the International Reading Association, and I'm also a Teacher-Consultant for the West Texas Writing Project, the local site of the National Writing Project. I love to teach all contents, but my heart is in literacy!
