Poetry Based on Prose - Students read two very short newspaper articles (prose) and then take their ideas and turn the prose into a poem. A unique way to get students thinking and talking about the differences between prose and poetry.
I often get amazing results from my students who are often "stuck for an idea" with their writing.
Includes two versions of the assignment - one for elementary / middle school and the other is more appropriate for high-school students (one of the articles deals with underage drinking) - choose the one that will work best for you. Also inlcudes a poetry brainstorming sheet and poetry marking rubric.
