This worksheet helps students compose not just a rhythm, but MANY rhythms to be played at the same time without getting frustrated by inexperience with using standard music notation. All they have to do is X out the number box they want to make a sound on with the instrument indicated and then try to play it. After each instrument has its own pattern of X's - then the students can try to play the patterns on different instruments. This is a GROUP activity for the classroom that can be run in small groups or the entire class being split into 4 parts.

I am a music teacher with 13 years of experience in the classroom and two M.A. Degrees (the first is Music Education and the second is Music Therapy). I use my education from both fields in my approach in the classroom to teach music literacy to English speaking students, non-English speaking students, and special populations.
