This is a lesson/handout on singular and plural possessives. I created this document as a guide and activity for students who don’t have a solid understanding of where and when to use apostrophes with possessives.
The handout begins by explaining singular possessives and offering a series of examples.
Then it covers plural possessives, again offering a series of examples.
Finally, students are given a series of nouns and asked to create both singular and plural possessives for each. You can collect this assignment, or go over it with the class, allowing students to share their possessive constructions. I like to let students keep this document as a guide, once we’ve gone over the answers.
While writing example sentences, I try to be slightly funny, using humor that teenagers call “random.” If, however, you prefer greater formality, feel free to make any changes you would like. Doing so will take about ten seconds, as this is a Word document. In fact feel free to alter any lesson or document you buy from me. It’s yours now.
