I created this lesson as a part of my literature unit on the Diary of Anne Frank; however, it could also be used in a history class. This lesson includes a 20 slide power point titled "Hitler's Seizure of Power, 1930-1933" and a KWL [what I know, what I want to know, what I learned] chart / organizer. You can download free versions of this chart with a quick google search, but I provided one in the zip file for convenience.

I always started the lesson with the first two parts of the KWL chart, or asking the students to brainstorm what they know about the Holocaust and what they still want to know. The students are always curious about why Germany elected and supported a man like Hitler. The power point is designed to help answer this question. My source for the historical information is a book titled Understanding the Holocaust by Betti Merti. The slide show also includes a Frayer model for the vocabulary term demagogue (a blank copy of this model is provided in the preview; the one in the slide show is completed). Slides #2 and 20 list the questions generated in class during the KWL brainstorming session and serve as both the opening and closing for this lesson.
