This 16 slide presentation is for a unit formed around the Halloween story, The Perfect Pumpkin Pie, by Denys Cazet.
The 16 slides include:
Slides 1-11 are over the vocabulary words in the story and include the definition, a picture, and the quote from the book that uses the word
Slide 12 explains what a simile is and uses an example from the book. It leaves space for you to come up with an alternate ending to a simile made in the story. This slide is great for guided practice.
Slide 13 is the actual assignment for students to do independently. It involves students creating their own similes using the words listed on the slide.
Slide 14 has a picture of an open coffin and is used for the class to brainstorm overused adjectives such as 'good', 'bad', etc. that should be buried and locked up forever.
Slide 15 includes a table that students fill out with adjectives that describe the 5 senses.
Slide 16 is a section of dialogue from the story that is retyped in a script format so students can practice how to adjust their expression to fit a character. This can be done as a whole group or in small groups. Great for students who need to work on improving their fluency.
