TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 23rd year teaching. My husband (also an AP English teacher) and I launched our first son into college this summer. I teach AP English Language and newspaper journalism. Each instructional experience has helped me grow as a teacher- US Peace Corps; Togo (West Africa), inner city Miami, suburban Seattle, ESL in Korea, international school in Colombia, school of choice Miami, Florida Virtual School and now, suburban Atlanta. I love to read and write with my students. I am currently fascinated by the Flipped Classroom movement. Follow me on Twitter @dlaughey Friends have asked, "Why all the TED Talks?" First, I love them and have been an avid TED Talks podcast subscriber for several years. Making viewing guides gives me an opportunity to re-watch some of my favorites and write curriculum to support some of the most inspiring and interesting web-based presentations in the modern world. I think about which ones I would use in the classroom, what my teaching colleagues would use or what I would like my students and my own children to view in their classrooms. Send me your viewing guide suggestions!
