This resource includes several ideas for pre-reading activities including anticipation guides, vocabulary charts, main idea charts, plot diagrams, sequence charts, prediction charts, and connections charts. These are useful for both fiction and nonfiction reading selections. When students build their background knowledge, comprehension is greatly improved. Since ESL students often lack sufficient background knowledge, these graphic organizers will help them understand what they read. Teachers can also use these as scaffolded notes. This resource is useful for both ESL and regular education teachers who have ESL students in their classes.
