Use these Illustrated Prefix Cards to keep your students engaged in fun activities that reinforce the definition of each prefix and examples of words that take on the meaning of the prefix when it is added to them.
Over two dozen of the most common prefixes are used in these cards, they are: mis, de, a, ab, abs, fore, tri, pre, re, dis, in, dif, semi, micro, ex, un, *im, sub, inter, pro, *im, tele, bi, super, under.
Fulfills CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.3.3a Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes.
*Note that the prefix 'im-' has two meanings; one is 'into' and the other is 'not', so I have created two separate cards for the prefix 'im-'.
These cards are created in two different sizes. The original set has 8 cards per page and the larger set has 4 cards per page. The small set will save you ink and paper but many teachers have indicated to me that they preferred to have a larger set to make a bulletin board display. So, that's why I added the larger version. And... I thank all of the teachers who have bought this and left such wonderful feed back. Thank you!

These - and the suffix cards - are a great resource for the 4th graders! Now just have to figure out how to sort them according to their language of origin (Latin, Greek, etc). Very useable this Spring!

Vocabulary Acquisition and Use:
Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a known affix is added to a known word (e.g., agree/disagree, heat/preheat).
This product teaches the meanings of different prefixes which will help students to figure out the meaning of any word that these prefixes are attached to. As long as they know the meaning of the root word and the meaning of the prefix, then they can deduce the meaning of the new word formed.

Nyla, Did I download the wrong file or is there a trick to printing. Mine have 6 per page. I wanted to use these for a literacy center. My fifth graders are having a lot of trouble with prefixes and suffixes! I love your work.
