Family or personal stories often define who we are as a people. However, very few of us "gather around the hearth or camp fire" anymore to pass these stories on to the next generation. Included in this activity are a few basic instructions for writing a memoir, a way of preserving these stories. This has been a fruitful activity to use after reading Native American literature, such as excerpts from Scott Momaday's The Way to Rainy Mountain or Native American myths, such as "The World on Turtle's Back."
