This free item is the first page of a 37 page to help students understand how to write a persuasive essay, as well as understanding vocabulary, critical thinking skills, etc. There are 5 different topics. For each topic, there is a page discussing pros and cons with vocabulary, the second page has critical thinking questions and fact/opinion discrimination. The 3rd page is a graphic organizer with Reasons why you are pro and reasons why you are against the topic. The students should decide from what they've written if they are trying to persuade others that violence (for example) is good or bad. The sentences they write on this graphic orgainizers will be the topic sentence for each one of the body paragraphs. The 4th page is a how to write a persuasive essay instruction. The 5th page is to write the persuasive essay. The 6th page is a check off sheet including, "did I use too many ands in my essay", "did I use an exclamation point, period or question mark at the end of each sentence, etc. The 7th page is a graphic organizer with What you know, What you want to know, and What have you learned?. The different topics include selling junk food in school, violence on tv or movies, should schools require tests for students to graduate, do athletes need good grades to play sports, and school dress code.
