Energy moves through an ecosystem in an amazing way. The producers are able to use energy from the sun to make their own food through a process called photosynthesis. Consumers then eat the producers, using the same energy to grow and reproduce. After an organism dies, decomposers break down its body and it is recycled back into the ecosystem.
Such a beautiful process should be put to music, and The Bonus Point Band is happy to oblige!
Lyrics:
Producers get their energy from sunlight in the sky.
We call them plants and they are green like mama's key lime pie.
Organisms have different roles;
An animal has got to eat to make it grow.
Plants and animals in the earth,
Energy in the ecosystem works.
Consumers do not make their food;
They have to go and eat.
Herbivores like to eat plants
And carnivores like meat.
Organisms have different roles;
An animal has got to eat to make it grow.
Plants and animals in the earth,
Energy in the ecosystem works.
Decomposers may be small,
But they still like to eat.
Bacteria and little worms
Clean road kill off the street.
Organisms have different roles;
Energy in the ecosystem works.
