This download contains a complete unit for instruction of a profile of a person. With the goal of producing a positive, flattering portrayal of a high school staff member or an accomplished peer, these materials provide students with the structure and process by which to create a publishable document. The download includes a 2-page overview of the assignment itself, including the writing prompt, requirements for the profile, detailed writing process checklist for the 3-week unit, and point breakdown for the final draft; a 2-page handout regarding guidelines and suggestions for writing the profile, covering various approaches to the lead, inverted pyramid organization, use of direct quotations, proper attribution, verb tense, and perspective; a 2-page peer evaluation form for in-class assessment of preliminary drafts of the profile; and a 1-page evaluation form for summative assessment of the final draft of the profile.
