This Dolch sight word phrases activity packet is designed for first graders, but can also be used for advanced kindergarteners or for second graders who need extra practice.
Activities include 62 sight word phrases selected from the first 150 phrases.
Perfect pumpkin fun for working with words, literacy centers, and small groups!
Reading sight words in context is important for automaticity to build fluency.
Use pumpkin cards as flashcards
*Duplicate multiple copies of pumpkin page to play games such as concentration or memory.
*Place all pumpkin cards in a pile face down to play “Read and Keep” in a small group. Players draw a card and can keep it if they say the phrase correctly. If not, it is returned to the pile. Player with the most cards wins!
*Sort phrases by nouns and verbs- sorting map and recording sheet included
*Have students sort cards by phrases they know and don’t know- sorting map and recording sheet included
*Use phrases in a sentence or a story. Writing paper included.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

24 years teaching reading and language arts, and I still LOVE it! I've been a reading specialist for the last ten years and most recently a literacy coach for Pre-K to grade 5 in an elementary school. I began my career teaching honors British and World Literature to high school juniors and seniors. Developed elective course curricula for Shakespeare and Women In Literature courses. Next, I moved on to middle school, teaching grade 8 English Language Arts for 7 years. English department chair for 6 years. Worked as a literacy resource teacher for grades 6-8 and wrote, coordinated, and led professional development to teachers on a weekly basis for four years.
