RI.K.4 Reading Informational Text Assessments

How do I assess kindergarteners in the Common CORE reading informational standards?

These pages were designed to be simple and flexible performance based assessments with Thinking Maps embedded in every one. They were intended as a general and reusable format for use with any informational text topic all year long. Students and teachers can use them with a variety of topics since they are skill oriented, thus they can be utilized over the course of a school year or even multiple grade levels. The only things specified are the focus elements for the prioritized CORE reading standard, which are asking and answering questions about unknown words.

They can also be used as on-going authentic student constructed response organizers which are built during lessons. The students can use pictures and/or words to show their thinking. These are wonderful quick checks, too-- giving teachers formative instructional info. and student immediate constructive/corrective feedback.

This assessment unit on the Informational text type focus skill of main topic and key details was created to enhance each student's learning experience with engaging and interactive lesson tools. The unit includes brainstorming tools, assessment templates, and sample pages. I stacked the preview pages with 4 pages on 1 picture, so that you could have a larger sampling of what's included. The templates and sample pages are provide at levels of completion to provide you with ready to use pages.
