Have you been told that you must "do" RTI? Yet have been given no direction, no training, no intervention resources or no progress monitoring tools? Then this is the packet for you. This packet is not the interventions...I do however, have an RTI Reading Interventions Menu (free) HERE. This product will help you progress monitor those interventions. In RTI, it's simply not enough to provide interventions to struggling readers, we must have proof, with data points, to prove that the interventions are working (or in some cases, not working). No longer can teachers recommend a student for testing based on hunches, sixth senses and 35 years of classroom experience. This product helps a teacher accomplish the task of collecting the progress monitoring data points for interventions in the foundational literacy skills of recognizing letter names, producing letter sounds, segmenting phonemes (phonemic awareness), decoding and blending CVC words, and reading basic sight words, all skills listed in the Foundational Literacy strand of the Common Core for grades K and 1. This packet is also ideal for interventionists, tutors or home school teachers of Kindergarten and first graders any teacher, interventionist, special education teacher, tutor or home school that works with 2nd or 3rd grade students reading at least one to two years below grade level.

Included in this product are the following:
A Quick Start Guide (1 page)
A Comprehensive Guide to RTI Progress Monitoring (10 pages)
Progress Monitoring Probes for Letter Name Identification (25 different sheets)
Progress Monitoring Probes for Letter Sound Production (25 different sheets)
Progress Monitoring Probes for Phonemic Awareness Segmentation (25 different sheets)
Progress Monitoring Probes for Nonsensical Word Fluency (25 different sheets)
Progress Monitoring Probes for Sight Word Identification (25 different sheets)
Teacher Graphs (editable)
Student Data Graphs (one for each measure)

In addition to the 125 progress monitoring probes (also known as CBM's) I have written a 10 page comprehensive guide to understanding the role, purpose and rationale of progress monitoring as an essential and necessary component of the RTI process from my experiences of implementing RTI for the past five years, in a very easy to read and understand format.

You are welcome to use this product with other teachers/interventionists on your team. If other teachers at other grade levels or schools are interested in these progress monitoring probes, please send them to my store at www.hellojenjones.com. This is my original work and I have put a lot of time, effort and energy into creating it.

Please be sure to download the preview file to get a snapshot of everything that's included in this Foundational Literacy RTI Progress Monitoring product and "Follow Me" for future RTI uploads.

Jen, I love this packet. I think it's very teacher friendly, for those who aren't familiar with DIBELS (they don't use DIBELS in my current district). However, I have a question/concern about the NWF. I noticed you have words with r-controlled vowels on probe 3. Is there a reason? Is it possible to get another probe that doesn't include r-controlled? Thank you!

Sure. No problem. I can switch those r's out for a different consonant and reupload to TpT. You can redownload it at your My Purchases tab. Give me about an hour. Jen :-)

Which version of DIBELS do you use? Specifically, which scoring version?
I am so confused as to what we should use and follow, especially since there is a disagreement between the original DIBELS authors and the University of Oregon. Thank you.
If you want to email me directly you can. Lenora_ADK@aol.com

Before we started using Aimsweb, I used the free downloads from the University of Oregon site, free guest access.

Dibels is very easy to administer and progress monitor. They should provide all the materials to you. I have several free RTI goodies that you might find helpful as you learn a new universal screening system.
Good luck! And thanks for following!

Hi Jen! I am just wondering if you have anything similar for the upper grades - 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I looked through the shop and found other pieces, but none like this assessment package. I'm interested in learning what you use (besides AIMSweb) to sort of diagnose the older student, who has print concepts, early decoding skills, and early comprehension skills. Thanks!

Hi Kelly! I am creating a 2nd (Less) Foundational Literacy set of CBM's that will include nonsense long vowels, consonant blends and digraphs, vowel digraphs and r-controlled, and rimes. This should cover the more advanced phonics stages before monitoring phonics and comprehension with my new fluency passages for progress monitoring. However, if you go to my blog using Google Chrome,
and using the Search box in the upper left corner, I provide free links to all the "Digging Deeper" Assessments we use to determine a child's most foundational area of need. These are used anytime throughout the year that a student begins Tier 2 interventions...looking at the digging deeper data tells us what to intervene on. You'll enter "digging deeper assessments" into my blog search box. Then let me know if I can help in any other way.

I am actually working on a 2nd Literacy bundle now that will include progress monitoring for dolch phrases, consonant blends & digraph nonsense words, two syllable nonsense words and long vowel & vowel digraph nonsense words, and r-controlled nonsense words. To be out soon. Jen :-)

Would this packet be appropriate for second grade students that are below grade level in terms of collecting data/performing interventions to bring into a child study?
Thanks!

Not sure, what "adbe" means? If you mean "adobe" -- that is not a file type, but the program that opens pdf documents -- a yes, once you unzip the file, it is a pdf that will be opened by Adobe. Do you not have an unzipping program? If you are having issues I can email it to you as separate files, which I'm willing to do for my loyal and devoted TpT buyers. :-) Let me know. Jen

Jen, Silly question but when I was purchasing your product it seemed like it wouldn't take my card. Come to find out I have purchased the same product 4 times and obviously don't need it 4 times. Anyway we can cancel three of those?

I apologize for the transaction message. I apparently didn't have the range set far enough back... I'm sorry. I was going to offer to email it to you, but I'm glad you got it working. I think it may have had something to do with looking at it in preview mode vs. download mode. Thanks for purchasing, I do appreciate your business. :-) Jen

Hi,
I am very interested in purchasing this product but I was wondering, do you explain how to use the different assessments with the students in the packet? I have never used a phonemic awareness segmentation assessment and was curious as to how to use it. Thanks so much!

Yes, I explain why and how to progress monitor phonemic awareness segmentation, in a 10-page PM guide that I wrote that is included in this bundle. :-)

Jen, I have a question that you probably get a lot and that I may have read over in the packet. Let's assume that a child comes in with a blank slate for a brain, which skill is most imperative to begin intervening? A student of mine is extremely low (just now being able to recognize her name after 37 days in school) and I have been working with her but your sand bucket analogy keeps popping into my head. I don't want me or her to become frustrated because she isn't getting it. Thanks for your help and this wonderful packet.

Jenny,
You didn't say your grade level, but I'm thinking your K based on her just learning her name. For grades K and 1, phonological awareness is the most foundational skill area, then letter identification and letter sound production is next. However, you wouldn't intervene in PA if she already has PA skills under her belt...you would need to administer a PA digging deeper assessment to determine this my Digging Deeper blog post had a link to a PA assessment you could use. Hope that helps. Jen
