This is an excellent community building activity!! You could use this at the beginning of school or anytime of the year your class needs an extra boost! You will need to use the tradebook the "Rainbow Fish" for this activity. After reading, the chilren should be given an easy fish template. After then, you will need to have pieces of tissue paper or construction paper for children to use to decorate. Each color will stand for a personality trait. Students will decorate thier fish based on thier personalities and the introduce themselves to the class. I hope this works as well for you as it did for me. Have fun!

My school has a surfing/ocean theme this year so decided to create rainbow fish to complement the theme as well as learn more about my students. thanks! I added a googly eye and a shiny sticker to complement the activity as well. they turned out so cute!

I have been teaching approximately 12 years and I absolutely love it!! I love creating things for teachers to help thier kids and I love helping teachers work "smart and not hard"! I have presented many times within my district (Memphis City Schools) and have been on multiple textbook adoption committees (Reading & Language Arts). I have had the opportunity to present on a national level on connecting Reading and Writing to teach comprehension. I have definitely been blessed with wonderful opportunities and I am very thankful for those that are to come.
