This 23 page unit reinforces reading comprehension skills including summarizing, drawing conclusions, making inferences, understanding character motivation, and ordering events. Students are also given the opportunity to make and confirm predictions, use context clues to understand new vocabulary words, and recall details.
Ramona Forever by Beverly Cleary is the continuation of the story of Ramona Quimbys year in third grade begun in the earlier book Ramona Quimby, Age 8. This volume in the continuing tales of the Quimby family of Klickitat Street in Portland, Oregon, contains a few surprises including a family wedding and the addition of a new baby to the family. As endearing an author as ever, Mrs. Cleary makes this familys triumphs and tragedies feel universal!
Each chapter in this book is introduced with a combination vocabulary/prediction page which acquaints the reader with new words theyll encounter and allows them to use these words to help them make predictions about what will happen in that chapter. After reading the chapter, students are asked to answer a set of comprehension questions. Three extra worksheets follow the last chapter. The first requires the reader to identify which character did what, the second asks them to order a summary of each chapters events, and the third invites the reader to compare him or herself to one of three important characters. A wonderful book to start with, this unit makes teaching Ramona Forever easier and more valuable. An answer key is included in this download.
