This activity can be used as a review of ratios, proportion, percents and circle graphs or as an end of a unit assessment. Students are provided with a table of a variety of lunch orders (The categories of the table can of course be modified to fit your school). The students then use this table to write ratios, set up and solve proportions and construct a circle graph. I allow the students to use a calulator, as I am assessing the procedures of the ratio set up and solving the proportions, not the basic arithmetic skills. (and some of the numbers are large - I do not have them write them in lowest terms, but that can be left up to you). I have also provided an answer key for easy grading.

I have been teaching 7th and 8th graders mathematics in a public school setting since 1999. I also take part teaching incoming 8th graders in a "math institute" each summer.
