I saw something similar to this years ago and have meant to do my own version...finally got around to it! Perfect for the writing station, students read a description (often silly) that uses similar sounds...then in the box they must illustrate what they read. Included are 15 writing prompts and direction page.
Students must read through the whole description in order to get an idea of what to draw. If they don't, they will soon learn that details change the meaning the further they read. Once they have read it, perhaps have them read it aloud to their partner and then either as a pair or individually, they draw the description. You can model how to label the pictures during a mini-lesson. You might also have the students work together, but create their own illustration and when finished, compare and discuss the differences and similarities between their two drawings.
