I have been using Read and Respond with my students since I started teaching 8 years ago and have tweaked it every year. Every educator knows how vital it is for students to be reading daily. Daily reading boosts fluency, builds vocabulary, and increases comprehension. Good readers think about what they read and the Read and Respond Daily Journal allows students to quickly and thoughtfully respond to what they are reading. Students use thought-provoking prompts to help them analyze what they read for deeper understanding. Read and Respond goes beyond traditional summarizing, although summarization is embedded into the response.
In this booklet you will get . . .
* Teacher directions and suggestions for use
* Student directions for students to paste in their journal
* Student rubric for students to paste in their journal
* Student worksheet (to be used instead of a composition notebook)
* Read and Respond Passes (for use as incentive/prize in your classroom)
Thanks for including the rubrics for LA and Reading. I think this will make journals less threatening for my intensive reading students since it gives them some choice. Plus, they will work to earn the passes.
Great! I love that I don't have to do additional copying of worksheets. Flexible for in-class reading assignments or instead of a traditional reading log for homework.
This is perfect for some of my students who are struggling to grasp what I am looking for from an active reader.

My school also used to do SFA, but have since adopted another program. However, our students were used to doing the read and respond so we've kept it. I've been looking to convert the read and respond to a notebook format for over a year now, but haven't had the time to create my own rubrics and directions. This guide is wonderful and well developed. I'm so excited to use it in my classroom this year.
I like the new ideas. I will incorporate parts of this into my ISN. Would buy from this seller again.

AbsolutelY LOVE THIS!!! Thank you for providing me with the perfect way to assign outside reading, and a great avenue to teach my students how to respond to literature meaningfully. This is a lifesaver for me, I cannot wait to do this with my 6-8th grade ELA classes!!! It's a great way to check and make sure they're actually reading, and it will teach them how to interact with the texts, a skill that will carry them through college and beyond!
